Wincheap Ward by-election on Thursday 13th November
Thanington parish councillor Guy Meurice, selected by local Liberal Democrats to contest the Wincheap Ward by-election.
Guy Meurice says that local facilities and services need to be protected and improved. He will be a strong voice for local people.
“Wincheap is the focus of a lot of Canterbury’s expansion. As your councillor I will ensure that residents’ views are heard when decisions are being made about its future”.
Wincheap Ward was previously held by Lib Dem Councillor, Roben Franklin who recently stood down from the City Council.
Roben said, "I have recently started a new job in Surrey where my fiancé lives and have taken the decision to move away from Canterbury. I have enjoyed my time as a councillor serving residents of Wincheap and I am grateful for the support and friendship that I have received."
Lib Dem leader Mike Sole said, "We all wish Roben well as he embarks on the next stage of his life. He has served his residents well and we have all valued the contribution that he has made to our group and the council.”
Postscript on 13 November 2025: The Wincheap by-election result was Green Party 842 votes, Liberal Democrats 518, Reform UK 351, Labour Party 276 and Conservative Party 166.
